Fabrication and characterization of sodium alginate-silicon nitride-PVA composite biomaterials with damping properties
(2024)Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical MaterialsSilicon nitride is utilized clinically as a bioceramic for spinal fusion cages, owing to its high strength, osteoconductivity, and antibacterial effects. Nevertheless, silicon nitride exhibits suboptimal damping properties, a critical factor in mitigating traumatic bone injuries and fractures. In fact, there is a scarcity of spinal implants that simultaneously demonstrate proficient damping performance and support osteogenesis. In our ...Journal Article -
Subcostal bilateral internal thoracic artery harvesting with the da Vinci Single Port system: an experimental feasibility study
(2024)Interdisciplinary Cardiovascular and Thoracic SurgeryWe evaluated the feasibility of harvesting bilateral internal thoracic arteries with the da Vinci Single Port system (SP) through a single left-sided subcostal incision. Complete bilateral mobilization with sufficiently long conduits for multivessel grafting was possible in 2 human cadavers and 2 live porcine. Creating the subcostal access and docking the SP system took between 14 and 21 min and the total harvest time ranged from 65 to ...Journal Article -
Does subjective wellbeing modify travel behaviour changes among older people in response to a new metro line?
(2024)Journal of Transport GeographyThis research aims to estimate how subjective wellbeing at baseline would affect the changes in travel behaviour among older people due to a new public transport infrastructure. Cross-sectional studies have begun to establish the connection between subjective wellbeing and travel behaviour, indicating that a high level of wellbeing can lead to beneficial outcomes such as active mode choice, frequent transport use, and social engagement. ...Journal Article -
Enzymatic degradation of pea fibers changes pea protein concentrate functionality
(2024)Current Research in Food SciencePea proteins are gaining increased interest from both the food industry as well as from consumers. Pea protein isolates (PPI) excel at forming meat-like textures upon heating while pea protein concentrates (PPC) are more challenging to transform into highly sought-after foods. PPCs are richer in dietary fibers (DF) and are more sustainable to produce than PPI. In this work, degradative enzymes were used to modify the functionality of ...Journal Article -
The Time-Dependent Interfacial Adhesion between Artificial Rock and Fresh Mortar Modified by Nanoclay
(2024)NanomaterialsThe time-dependent interfacial adhesion between rock and fresh mortar is key for printing concrete linings in mountain tunnels. However, a scientific deficit exists in the time-dependent evolution of the interfacial adhesion, which can cause adhesion failure when printing tunnel lining. Nanoclay has the potential to increase the interfacial adhesion and eliminate the adhesion failure. Before the actual printing of tunnel linings, the ...Journal Article
